Chelsea have been established Premier League contenders each year since the arrival of Roman Abramovich.
He has ruled the roost with an iron fist and turned the Blues into one of the most dangerous teams in Premier League history.
His wallet has not only guided Chelsea to major honours, but has also helped attract some of the brightest talents in world football to Stamford Bridge.
Saying this however, Chelsea have struggled in a variety of ways this season. The following few months will indicate if the current European champions can be thrown back into the ring with the Manchester clubs and rightfully claim some greatly needed league success.
Chelsea have a number of barriers to burst through but if these five factors happen throughout the Summer, it will be hard for anyone to stop them.
Check them out below:
1. The arrival of Radamel Falcao
Radamel Falcao is sheer class. He is the complete package as a striker and is been pursued by a variety of teams not only in England, but also throughout Europe.
His goal scoring ratio is simply superb and with 31 goals in 35 appearances this season for Atletico Madrid, it is hard to not admire the Columbian front man. Falcao will add much needed firepower to an already ferocious Chelsea attack.
2. The return of "The Special One"
Jose Mourinho is held highly in the hearts of Chelsea fans everywhere. His name is still heard echoing around Stamford Bridge on match days. He is a tactical genius and even though his football is not the most eye-catching, it does deliver results. Hopefully Jose and Roman can patch things up and bring the Blues back to the glory days.
3. The sale of Fernando Torres
"El Nino" has had his time in a blue shirt. This season he has provided glimpses of the once universally feared goal machine, but unfortunately he has been far too inconsistent.
The arrival of Demba Ba has seemed to put pressure on Fernando and he has shown moments of magic. If Chelsea are able to sign a world-class striker in the summer then it's hard to see where Torres will fit in with any new arrivals.
4. Real Madrid stars to follow Mourinho
With rumours of Sergio Ramos taking English lessons and the obvious unhappiness of pass master Luka Modric, Chelsea have an opportunity of signing two of the deals of the Summer.
Sergio Ramos has been ever present in the Real Madrid defence in the last number of years and he would provide a touch of class to the Chelsea defence.
Chelsea narrowly missed out on the capture of Modric before he left for Madrid and with the imminent departure of Frank Lampard, Modric would fit into his slot perfectly.
5. Let the manager do his job
If Mourinho returns, I am sure he will have made it perfectly clear to Roman Abramovich that he will be in charge. He needs to run things his way for Chelsea to be successful.
If Roman can stay away from the dressing room, then Mourinho will create a happy, dedicated and consistent atmosphere that could lead Chelsea to more honours and awards.
It's that time of year again where Roman Abramovich must do what has to be done, blow the dust off his wallet, and give Chelsea the extra fire power and motivation needed to retain their Premier League crown.
