Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane insists Europe’s biggest clubs would have no problem paying Tottenham Hotspur as much as £60million for Gareth Bale.
Spurs’ talisman has been in electrifying form this season as the White Hart Lane club fight for a Premier League top four place and Champions League qualification.
This has led to speculation that Real Madrid are determined to sign him this summer and the words of the Santiago Bernabeu director of football certainly indicate a move would be possible.
The France legend claimed the Welshman has been the best player in Europe this season and the biggest clubs wouldn’t bat an eyelid in paying big money for him.
“After the season he has just had - and still being so young of course Gareth Bale is going to be one of the most expensive players in the world if he decides to move,” Zidane is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.
'Tottenham could command £40million, £50m, maybe even £60m for him. It is a lot of money - but there are maybe three or four teams in the world that can pay that sort of transfer fee - and it wont put them off.
“They would be getting the best player in Europe this season - and he is at an age where he can still play at the top for another ten years.”
Tottenham will be desperate to hang onto their prized possession and there were reports that chairman Daniel Levy had even put a £100million price tag on him to dissuade his suitors.
While Real Madrid may question whether Bale is worth a new world record transfer fee, Zidane was sure the 23-year-old could become a key player for any side that signed him.
“What I like about him is that he has this electric pace - but also a big footballing brain to go with it. That is very rare,” he added
“A player like Bale can be the difference between a big club winning the league or Champions League.”
