Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has suggested that he could be on his way out of Spain, following the club's Champions League exit.
Mourinho’s side were dumped out of the competition after losing 4-3 on aggregate to German outfit Borussia Dortmund, and this defeat might just be enough to persuade Mourinho to finally turn his back on Spain.
He has had a tough time in Madrid and hasn’t felt sufficiently cherished, while in his post-match press conference he said: "I want to be where people love me. I know that in England I am loved. I know I'm loved by some clubs, especially one."
It doesn’t take much to read between the lines of that one.
With Rafael Benitez, Chelsea’s interim manager, on his way out of Stamford Bridge at the end of this season - a hot seat will be vacant at a club where the Special One was loved.
Mourinho has had a mixed time at Real Madrid. He won La Liga, the Supercopa and the Copa del Rey in his first two seasons but has continually flirted with controversy. Whether that be gauging current Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova’s eye or falling out with goalkeeper and Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas he has never been far from the headlines.
Mourinho, the mind-game master, could genuinely be very unhappy in Madrid. Or, on the other hand, he could just be trying to deflect attention away from two games of football where his side, apart from the last ten minutes of the second leg, were outclassed by a strong Borussia Dortmund side.
Either way, expect to see Mourinho back in the Premier League soon.
