Younes Kaboul, Tottenham Hotspur

The Frenchman did not look like a top quality Premier League centre-back for a long while, though his physical attributes meant he would always have presence on the pitch.

This changed last season, however, when something clicked for Kaboul and positional his positional awareness improved dramatically – so much so that he was one of Spurs’ better players in finishing fourth.

If it wasn’t for the form of Jan Vertonghen this season, Kaboul’s long-term injury would have been a major blow for Andre Villas-Boas, who will be glad to have him back next season.
