Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick, who moved to Old Trafford six seasons ago, believes that he has improved vastly as a player since joining the Red Devils and is now at the peak of his powers in terms of form and ability.

The 31-year-old England international has been considered United most consistent and reliable performer this season, helping his club to their 20th domestic title and has also earned his place in the PFA Team of the Year.

Despite claiming he is playing his best football currently, Carrick has vowed not to slow down and become even better in seasons to come.

“Yeah, I feel like I've improved all the time I've been at United,” Carrick told the club's official website when asked if he was at his peak. “You’re always going to have better spells than others. That's natural and you can’t be on an upward curve all the time or play at your best all the time.

“But as time has gone on I have improved as a player and I’m still looking to improve even now. You have to here.”

Carrick has often been overlooked by either the media or fans of other clubs and is a highly underrated player. His top performances have often gone unnoticed perhaps because of the ease and simplicity he executes his game.

However, the midfielder has come out and said that he doesn’t care much for personal praise or recognition. In fact he remains neutral to what the media and the public perceive of him, be it positive or negative and has laughed off criticism and praise in the past.

“It makes me laugh sometimes with the things I read and comments I hear,” Carrick continued. “Perhaps a few more figures in football have said nice things about my game and then people jump on that. But I’ve been happy with my form for a while now.”

Carrick has been one of United's key players this season with 44 appearances for the club. His ability to read the game and dictate play has helped United keep calm in midfield and control matches more often than not. Although having been criticised as a "soft" player, what he lacks in a brash and approach - he makes up for with his mind. Intercepting countless through balls and breaking up attacks even before they occur.

There is no doubt United's season would have been completely different without him and it seems like he has finally come full circle for the club. Fans can expect more outstanding performances from him in the coming seasons but perhaps they have to keep an eye out for him because the man is not known for being too flashy, opting to take a subtle approach with deadly efficiency.
