Manchester City have had a £17million bid rejected for Roma starlet Eric Lamela, according to reports.

TalkSPORT cite speculation on Italian TV channel Mediaset when claiming that Roberto Mancini’s offer has been knocked-back for the talented 21-year-old.

Lamela has scored 15 goals in 29 Serie ‘A’ appearances, making him one of the leading marksmen in Italy.

The striker is also tipped to be a future star for the Argentine national team, with one-cap already to the name of the former River Plate starlet.

Manchester City, meanwhile, have lost the Premier League title to rivals Manchester United, with last summer’s striker target Robin Van Persie cited as the major difference between the two teams.

The Citizens are also light in attack following Mario Balotelli’s exit from the Etihad Stadium in January, with Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko the current options available to Mancini.

Lamela would add another dimension to the Manchester City attack, but an increased offer will be needed amidst reports from the radio station that Roma are looking to open fresh contract talks with the player.
