Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla has insisted that a top-four finish isn't good enough for a club like Arsenal and believes trophies must be won.

The Spanish midfielder also believes that the Gunners' inconsistency has cost them dearly this season and believes they must improve on that if they want to be serious trophy contenders next season.

Arsenal only have a Champions League spot left to fight for and that is still out of their hands as London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham are also battling it out for the remaining two spots with just three games left for Arsenal and four left for both Chelsea and Spurs.

The Gunners were left stunned in both domestic competitions as they lost to lower league opposition in both the FA Cup and the Capital One Cup. Losses to Blackburn Rovers and Bradford City were then backed up by losing to Bayern Munich in the Champions League as well.

A period in Autumn are the main reasons to why Arsenal are not competing for more than just a Champions League spot as the Gunners only won two games out of eight in that period.

Summer signing Cazorla has insisted that if the side can find a level of consistency, then they will be serious trophy candidates next season.

Cazorla told the club website: "The aim is to win trophies. Unfortunately Arsenal has gone eight years without a trophy, which is a long time for such a huge club that's always up there fighting with the other big clubs.

"This year we haven't been able to, for various reasons. I hope next year will be another story. We want to be fighting for the Premier League and all the tournaments we enter. We're a great team and I'm sure we will.

"What I've taken from this year is that as a team we weren't very consistent for half of the season, which cost us in terms of reaching the higher positions in the league.

"Now we're a lot more consistent and that's the form we were lacking before - being consistent and getting the three points whenever we could.

"We're a long way off the top because of this lack of form, even though it was only for half the season."
