Eleven times Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal will feature alongside Roger Federer in this year’s Swiss Indoors event in October.
Nadal is continuing his comeback from a series of injuries that saw him miss over half of last season.
Nadal was unable to compete at Wimbledon or the US Open in 2012 and also missed the Australian open this year.
A lack of tennis has seen the former world number one fall to fifth in the world rankings but after a win in the ATP 500 event in Barcelona last week, it looks as though the Spaniard is returning to his best.
Nadal's entry into the competition is likely to spark excitement for the local fans, who have not yet been treated by a Federer-Nadal clash in the tournament’s history.
It will mark the first time in nine years that Nadal will compete in the event, having last featured in 2004 when Rainer Schueettler beat him.
Other notable participants includes world number six Tomas Berdych, France’s Jo Wilfred Tsonga and the former US Open Champion, Juan Martin Del Potro.
Nadal’s entry is likely to add more flare and blaze to the ATP 500 event, as he will bring a remarkable head-to-head record against local favourite Federer – which currently stands at 19-10. However, the Swiss maestro leads their series on indoor surfaces.
The tournament is scheduled to start from 19th October and will wind up on the 26th. Argentina’s Juan Martin Del Potro is the defending champion.
