Steven Pienaar is desperate to be included in the Everton team set to face Liverpool at Anfield this weekend.
The South African has missed the last two encounters against the Reds but is under no illusions about the significance of this fixture to Merseysiders.
He told the official Everton website: “Derbies mean a lot and we know what’s at stake. For the people and the city and the pride of the club, it’s one of those games you don’t want to lose.
“We will give everything to make sure we come away with three points because it’s been a long while since we won there."
The Toffees currently sit five points clear of their rivals and are within touching distance of a Europa League spot.
Pienaar was adamant finishing in the top five was the main priority, though, and there is no particular discussions about finishing above Brendan Rodgers’ side.
“The most important thing is to get into Europe,” he claimed. “I know at this stage it is difficult but we just want to win the games and see how far we go.
“You don’t know what is going to happen on top of us. Maybe one of the teams can lose all their games and we win all ours.”
However, that scenario is incredibly unlikely and the reality of the situation is that the Blues will need to get at least two wins from their last three games to have any chance of catching those above.
