Manchester United have been making further steps in their quest to bring back Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford.

As the expected fee for the Portuguese skipper is estimated to be well above £50m, the Premier League champions are anticipated to seek financial support from their top commercial partners.

However, with potential bidders Paris Saint-Germain having already offered £80m to Real Madrid for Ronaldo, Manchester United are driven to add a player to their proposal, in addition to the cash.

Subsequent to Madrid’s rejection for Wayne Rooney, The Sun now reports that the Spanish club are actually willing to take Mexican forward Javier Hernandez to the Bernabeu.

Considering he has had only seven Premier League start this season, there is a great chance Chicharito will be tempted by a Real offer. Nevertheless, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson may block such a move, as he still wants to hang on to his striker.

“There is no reason to think this [club] is not the place for him,” the British tabloid quoted Fergie saying. “We hope he feels he has made a contribution [to Man United’s success this season].”

But Real Madrid are ready to offer the Red Devils £25m for Hernandez, even if Fergie refuses to release his striker as part of his bid for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Following Madrid’s failure to win the Champions League this season, Ronaldo is likely to put on hold a transfer, as he looks to remain in Spain for another season.
