Video: Red Star Belgrade goalkeeper concedes calamity free-kick

Published 2 Comments

The internet is awash with football own goals and gaffes from all over the world, but you'll struggle to find a worse mistake than Red Star Belgrade goalkeeper Boban Bajkovic's latest blooper.

The 28-year-old was the talk of the terraces in Serbia on Thursday night after he conceded a calamitous free-kick in yesterday's 3-2 victory over Jagodina.

With the visitors 2-1 up early in the second half, the Montenegrin stopper let in the softest of equalisers, when Milan Djuric's harmless set-piece found its way into Bajkovic's far corner.

A tame punt forward into an overcrowded Red Star box was arrogantly passed off by the unsuspecting goalkeeper, who waved his arms and began to turn away, to signal that there was no danger.

But, to Bajkovic's surprise - and the annoyance of his team-mates - the Jagodina players started gesticulating wildly, as the ball had nestled in their opponents' net, to bring the scores level at 2-2.

Thankfully, Marko Vesovic spared his goalkeeper from facing the wrath of the Red Star manager by immediately going up the other end to restore the away side's lead less than 60 seconds later.
