Barcelona are leading the way in La Liga and are on course to win the title.

They are sitting 11 points clear of closest rivals Real Madrid with just five games remaining, while city rival Atletico Madrid sit third following their derby defeat.

Real Sociedad, meanwhile, occupy the other Champions league spot.

Below is the list of the best La Liga players from this season:

5. Carlos Vela | Real Sociedad

The former Arsenal flop has been spearheading Sociedad’s bid for Champions league football this season. The 24-year-old Mexican international has scored 13 goals in 28 appearances this season.

4. Andres Iniesta | Barcelona

The Spanish World Cup winner has been magnificent for Barcelona this season. He has been the brains behind Barcelona’s march to the title this season - and with 14 assists in the league, you can understand why.

3. Radamel Falcao | Atletico Madrid

Falcao is one of the best finishers in the game. The striker has managed to notch up 25 goals in just 29 appearances for the Spanish outfit. The Colombian has attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo | Real Madrid

The Portuguese has scored an unbelievable 31 goals in only 28 appearances for the Spanish club to leave him second in the goalscoring chart. His performances have been world class for large parts of the campaign despite a relatively slow start to the season. Ronaldo was instrumental for Real Madrid in their 2-2 draw at the Nou Camp with two well-taken goals for his team.

1. Lionel Messi | Barcelona

Who else but Barcelona’s record goal scorer? The Argentina captain has almost single-handedly propelled Barcelona to the top of the league with various match-winning performances for the Catalan side.

With 44 goals in 30 games for Barcelona, he is set to win another Pichichi. Few can argue that Messi was the most outstanding player from the league this season.
