Real Madrid’s 4-3 victory over Real Valladolid on Saturday evening temporarily reduced Barcelona’s lead at the top of La Liga table to eight points.

Subsequently, manager Barca boss Tito Vilanova wants his side to give their all against Real Betis on Sunday night - with the intention of putting three more valuable points on the board - as he aims to take hold of La Liga title at the earliest convenience.

“The sooner we get the three points, the better,” he said during the pre-match press conference at the Camp Nou

Barcelona will still be reeling from their 3-0 home loss to Bayern Munich in mid-week, which saw them get destroyed 7-0 on aggregate in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.

However, the team is aware that triumph in La Liga this Sunday would help them and their fans feel psychologically much better.

“We want to give the fans a boost,” Vilanova added. “Why wait until the last match if we can win the league before then?”

Barcelona have been having quite a few injury problems this season, with the list of long-term victims including Carles Puyol, Eric Abidal and Javier Mascherano.

But Vilanova has asserted that Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi have made good progress, although he did not confirm whether they would play the full 90 minutes on Sunday against Betis or not.

“They [Busquets and Messi] have trained well, but we will make a final check on them,” he stated. “In training, the stresses are more controlled and the tension is different from that of a match.”

If Barcelona beat Real Betis and Real Madrid fail to win away to Espanyol on Matchday 35, then the Catalans will be Liga champions even before their kick-off against Atletico Madrid on May 12.
