Top Five: Most Crucial Premier League Games (5)

Manchester United v Tottenham

Manchester United’s historic treble season in 1999 almost never happened as they went into the final day of the Premier League season.

With Arsenal hot on their heels, Manchester United needed to win their final game of the season against Spurs to set them on the path to history. But the north London club hadn’t read the script and opened the door for their rivals to sneak in as they went ahead early on.

However Manchester United had their eye on re-writing the history books, and first David Beckham pulled the scores level before Andy Cole came off the bench to score a lobbed winner – and the first part of a historic treble was secured. Only looking back now can you get the sense of how much was riding on the game.
