John Terry has revealed Jose Mourinho is still very interested at what is going on at Chelsea and that he is still seen as “The Special One”.
The Blues captain said he and the Real Madrid manager are still friends and are in regular contact via text message.
Terry also claimed fellow Stamford Bridge legend Frank Lampard often spoke with Mourinho.
The veteran centre-back said Mourinho had been constantly interested in the goings on at Chelsea since he left in 2007, after leading the club to two consecutive Premier League titles in 2005 and 2006.
"We send each other text messages and often wish each other good luck,” Terry said in an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca.
“He's interested in our results and everything that happens at the club. He's not only in contact with me but also with (Frank) Lampard and other players.”
Chelsea fans have been calling Mourinho’s name in a turbulent season that saw huge opposition to the appointment of Rafael Benitez as interim manager following the sacking of Robert di Matteo.
However, Benitez has led the Blues to a Europa League final place and they look set to secure third placed in the Premier League.
Terry revealed the connection the club’s supporters had with Mourinho though, and explained why they were still chanting the Portuguese’s name.
“Mourinho has a great relationship with our fans because we won the Premier League and several other titles with him,” he said.
“The fans have clearly shown that he is the man they want after everything he won. He's still 'The Special One'.”
Terry also explained why Mourinho was such a success at Stamford Bridge and why there was still such a strong connection with his former players.
“He always thought about the squad, not just the starting-eleven. He explained things to you, also when you weren't playing and demanded everything from you.
“We worked hard and we could also talk to him about personal problems. He was a friend. We were all sad when he left,” he concluded.
The comments have interesting timing as Mourinho has been heavily linked with a return to Chelsea this summer.
