Former-Real Madrid star and two-time Champions League winner Christian Karembeu believes Bayern Munich are one of the best teams he’s ever seen.
The French World Cup-winning midfielder was talking to GiveMeFootball at the FIWC Grand Final in Madrid – the tournament that aims to crown the world’s best FIFA 13 player.
And Karembeu thinks German football is reaping the rewards of hard work that started over 20 years ago, and that Bayern Munich in particular are one of the most impressive outfits he’s ever watched.
Speaking to GiveMeFootball, Karembeu said: “I’ve been to Bayern Munich. To the facility and I think they are one of the best teams I have ever seen, ever watched.
“It is a very well structured [club] – right from the president down. Things are very open. I know why they are in the final again – because this is their second final [in two years]. This [kind of dominance] doesn’t happen very often for many teams. So they deserve to be there. They deserve to win.”
Munich’s final against Borussia Dortmund this month will also be their third in just four years – although they’re yet to win the competition since their penalty shootout victory over Valencia in 2001.
The German final at Wembley Stadium will be the first all-Bundesliga affair in the Champions League era, and Karembeu thinks the German league's dominance is the result of hard work and investment that started more than two decades ago.
“I know that from 20 years ago they built new academies, used new ideas, and now they have the results from what they implemented,” continued the ex-Real Madrid midfielder.
