On the day that Bayern Munich confirmed the signing of Mario Goetze, there were many questions playing on fans and teammates minds.
But the biggest question was whether Goetze would actually play against his future club in the most important game of his footballing career to date. Unfortunately for Goetze, Borussia Dortmund's success was quickly followed up by Bayern Munich's impressive performance against the Catalan giants, setting the stage for an interesting and controversial final.
To be honest, this situation is partially Goetze's fault. No player should agree to a transfer a month before the window opens, as there is a big possibility that the player would focus on his future with his new club rather then finishing the season with his old one. Goetze should have also noticed the small possibility of facing Bayern in the final, should Dortmund overcome Real Madrid.
This match will probably lead to two different scenarios. If Dortmund win, Bayern Munch fans will not want a player that helped deny them winning the biggest trophy that they can compete for, especially following their failure to win it last season. Surely if the fans do not respond well to Goetze, he will be put under immense pressure, and should he not be able to provide good and consistent performances, his career at Bayern Munich will come crashing down.
The second possibility is that Bayern Munich win the trophy, which will inevitably lead Dortmund fans to accusing Goetze of not playing his best in the final. Although this will not really affect his career at Bayern, surely he will not want the fans of the club that he has been playing for since he was just eight accusing him of a lack of loyalty and effort.
Either way, there is only one way that Goetze can actually redeem himself, and this is by winning the Man of the Match award and Bayern Munich succeeding in the final. Unless this unlikely scenario plays out, Goetze will have placed himself in a very undesirable position.
