The news broke today that Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will retire from his post come the end of the season, which will end his 27-year tenure at Old Trafford.

Reports originally came out last night that the manager was seriously thinking about his future, but the club refused to make any formal comments. The news broke this morning that the reports were true and that Ferguson will retire come the end of the season.

Sir Alex Ferguson has become the most successful manager in English football history after helping United win 49 titles in total including 13 league titles.

The news has shaken the footballing world and has sparked a lot of speculation about who will take over from the legend.

Currently Everton's David Moyes is in pole-position to take over at Old Trafford, but Real Madrid's Jose Mourinho is also a possible candidate.
