Bruce Grannec was crowned the FIFA Interactive World Champion after night of high drama at Teatro Goya.

After three days of gaming, the scene was set at Teatro Goya as the grand final commenced. France’s Bruce Grannec and Mexico’s Andrei Torres Vivero went head to head in a $20,000 match-up for the title of the world’s best FIFA 2013 player. The match was won by Cristiano Ronaldo as he smashed home in the 31st minute. As the final whistle blew his reaction said it all as he finally cracked a smile after three days of intense concentration.

As the evening began, after the players had been go-karting to take their minds off the competition and a few of the players taught the watching media a lesson in how to play, they got down to business when the quarter finals took place. In the quarter finals Grannec beat August Rosenmeier, Abdulaziz Alshehri beat Oscar Martin, Rafael Riobo Sanchez defeated Andres Botero and Torres Vivero edged out former champion Kai Wollin.

The semi finals saw Grannec against Alshehri  and Andrei Torres Vivero take on Rafael Robio Sanchez. The four men battled it out for a place in the Grand Final of the competition. The matches were tense affairs but Vivero and Grannec came out on top to the reach the grand final.

And then there were two. Bruce Grannec and Andrei Torres Vivero went head to head to take this year’s crown, and their match did not disappoint. A nervy affair which neither wanted to lose ensued, until Grannec took the lead in the 31st minute thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo. Vivero went all out in an attempt to claw the match back but missed a golden opportunity in the final seconds to hand the title to the French machine.

Grannec said afterwards that although he does not show emotion, the victory is reason to celebrate. “I am smiling inside,” said Grannec.

He also commented that such had been his concentration during the game that forgot what was at stake. “I just realised I will go to the Ballon D’Or as I had forgotten whilst the game was on and I just want to meet all the players,” continued the Frenchman.

That he will, as he was crowned the champion of the FIFA Interactive World Cup for 2013, as well as being presented with a magnificent trophy and a cheque for $20,000.
