Chelsea bid to bring back Jose Mourinho hits the rocks
Chelsea news: Roman Abramovich is refusing to pay a compensation fee for Mourinho, putting the move in doubt
Jose Mourinho's hopes of a dream return to Stamford Bridge could be all-but over after Chelsea chairman Roman Abramovich has revealed he is not willing to pay for his buy-out clause reports the Daily Mail.
There has been heavy speculation about Mourinho's future ever since he revealed that he wants to leave Spain and go somewhere he feels loved, that place being suggested as England and more precisely, Chelsea.
He is widely reported to be close to agreeing a £10-million-a-year contract but negotiations have hit a snag thanks to the extraordinary buyout clause in Mourinho’s contract.
The contract states that any club will have to pay £20 million in compensation to Madrid to take Mourinho off their hands during the season with that number being open to negotiation in the summer.
It is reported that Mourinho is not liked in Spain by the Real Madrid fans and also by the majority of the players within the club as well, in particular club legend Iker Casillas.
Mourinho is strongly-linked with a return back to Stamford Bridge and is favourite to take over from interim-manager Rafael Benitez, but the move could be in jeopardy after Abramovich is refusing to pay big for the Portuguese.
'The Special One' was sacked by Chelsea and Abramovich back in 2006 and in order to release him and his coaching team, the club had to pay him £18million in compensation.
Even further bad news for Chelsea is that Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has announced his retirement and Mourinho could be very interested in replacing the United boss as he has always wanted the chance to be the manager at Old Trafford.
The future of Sir Alex Ferguson has been confirmed, but no-one has a clue where Jose Mourinho will be come next season.
