Schalke general manager Horst Heidt has revealed that Borussia Dortmund have made several attempts to sign Manchester United and Arsenal target Julian Draxler, reports talkSPORT.

The 19-year-old midfielder is widely regarded as one of the brightest young talents in the Bundesliga, and has attracted attention from a host of top European clubs.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is a confirmed admirer of the Germany international, and is believed to be keen to bring him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Meanwhile, Manchester United and Real Madrid have both been credited with an interest in Draxler's services too, with Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho adding to a growing list of fans of the talented teenager.

Borussia Dortmund are expected to step up their pursuit of the in-demand Schalke star when the transfer window reopens on July 1, as Jurgen Klopp continues his search for a replacement for Bayern Munich-bound Mario Gotze.

"For some time, Borussia Dortmund have been working on [trying to sign] Draxler," Heidt told German newspaper Bild.

"It is something that does not surprise me given that Julian is one of the best players in the Bundesliga."

Valued at around £15million, Draxler looks like being the subject of intense transfer interest this summer, with Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund leading the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid in the race for his signature.
