Andy Corbett’s testimonial game at Pirelli Park saw a Derby County side take on a team from Burton Albion, with the game ending in an 8-8 draw.
Yet what happened in the game could be seen as rather remarkable. Current Derby County manager Nigel Clough took a good squad along to his old stomping ground to celebrate Corbett’s career - he actually signed him for the club. Featuring players from the past Burton Albion were the first to find the net in the 17th minute, before Derby scored three in seven minutes, making the score 3-1 at half time.
Now if someone turned round to you and said, I reckon we are in for a few goals this half, being that it is just a testimonial you might well have agreed, however for anyone to predict the following would have been amazing. A further 12 goals were added in the second half, as the game finished 8-8.
At one stage Derby had been leading 6-1, before the Burton XI staged a tremendous comeback. Corbett scored what proved to be the equalising goal in the 90th minute from the penalty spot. Burton even threw physio James Rowland and sports scientist Jack Sharkley, to make cameo appearances.
In what was just a bit of fun turned out to be a great evening for Corbett, the club and its fans as they got the chance to celebrate the service he has given to the club.
