Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool appear to have missed out on Belgian defender target Toby Alderweireld.
Metro cite reports in Italy when claiming that Roma have agreed a deal for the 24-year-old, who will move to Serie ‘A’ from Ajax at the end of the season.
The centre back had previously hinted that he would be keen on a move to the Premier League, according to the paper, with both the Reds and Spurs interested in bringing the 23-cap international to England.
However, both Andre Villas-Boas and Brendan Rodgers look set to be disappointed, with the Giallorossi ‘jumping the queue’ to land the player.
Roma initially feared that they would miss out on the player during a transfer scramble for his signature in the summer, but the report claims their ‘quick thinking’ has led to the current situation.
The news will be a blow to Liverpool, who are set to be short of options at the back next season. Jamie Carragher has announced his decision to retire, and Sebastian Coates is yet to impress at Anfield.
Tottenham Hotspur, meanwhile, have plenty of options, but AVB is eager to strengthen ahead of what could be a crack at Champions League football for the White Hart Lane outfit next term.
