Christian Benteke happy at Aston Villa

Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke has insisted that he is happy at the club, despite ongoing speculation that he may look to move to a bigger club in the summer.

The 22-year-old striker was signed by Paul Lambert for Villa back in the summer from Belgian side Genk for £7m, and after an impressive debut season it looks like that price-tag may have at least doubled.

The Belgium international has scored 22 goals in his debut season in England and has won the praise of many involved in the game.

The likes of Arsenal and Tottenham are both reportedly interested in bringing Benteke to the Emirates Stadium and White Hart Lane respectively, but it now appears that the player himself is happy at Villa.

It now looks that Aston Villa are safe in the Premier League and that may have been enough to keep Benteke happy, but the player himself insists that he wants to stay at Villa Park.

"I am very happy to play at Aston Villa," he told the Birmingham Mail. "I try to enjoy doing my job. When I come to the training ground I try to keep smiling because some people in their life have some hard jobs so we have to enjoy our jobs. That's why I try to be positive all of the time.

"When I came the fans gave me a lot of respect and I try to give it to them back on the pitch."

The striker was named by the club's players as their Young Player of the Season at the Aston Villa annual awards - and he has plenty of praise for his fellow team-mates.

"I am very proud to get this trophy but I would like to say thank you to my team-mates and to the supporters. The supporters are with us all the way and I'm very proud.

"I think Paul Lambert is a very good manager. We have a young squad and he is always behind us. For a young team like us it is very important to have a trainer that is behind us."
