Manchester United's press office have accidentally confirmed David Moyes will be the club's new manager - before it had been officially announced.

Everton boss David Moyes is the man expected to be named as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor any moment now, after the 71-year-old Scot revealed his plans to step down after 26 years in charge at Old Trafford yesterday.

Manchester United do not have an official Twitter account - they are the only Premier League club not on the social networking site - however some official news is posted via the club's press office feed.

Earlier this afternoon they erroneously tweeted a link to the club's official Facebook page, which invited users to send their 'personal welcome to our new manager David Moyes.'

The message was swiftly deleted, and as yet their has been no official confirmation of his appointment.

However Everton have confirmed the Scot will leave at the end of the season, and that he expressed a desire to join Manchester United.

Now the footballing world is on tenterhooks, waiting for official word on the man charged with the daunting task of replacing Ferguson, who enjoyed unrivalled success during his time in the hot seat at Old Trafford.
