Brilliant to blundering: Five Premier League enigmas (4)

David Luiz – Chelsea

It’s fair to say the Brazilian has come a long way since being called a Playstation player and he has been in great form recently, but some sort of calamity is never far away for David Luiz.

Perhaps it is the cost of having the willingness to dance close to disaster in order to find brilliance but sometimes Luiz appears to have no idea what he should be doing, which inevitably ends up with him looking silly and Chelsea conceding.

Rafael Benitez has helped Luiz by giving him an outlet for his creative urges every so often by playing him in central midfield, but it’s hard not to expect something going horribly wrong every time he is put under pressure while on the ball in defence.

Again, it could be that Luiz is starting to outgrow his defensive eccentricities, but his love of the outrageous is always likely to come back and bite him on the behind every so often.
