Manchester United and Chelsea moves for Robert Lewansdowski have been threatened after the Borussia Dortmund star reportedly held a secret meeting with Real Madrid.
According to German newspaper Bild, the Poland striker met with Santiago Bernabeu president Florentino Perez after the Champions League semi-final second leg.
Both Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked with summer moves for Lewandowski, who his heading into the final year of his contract at Dortmund.
Sir Alex Ferguson admitted an interest in the 24-year-old recently but the Manchester United boss announced his retirement this week, which could affect the interest in him out of Old Trafford.
Everton manager David Moyes was confirmed as Ferguson’s successor yesterday and may have differing transfer targets, but Lewandowski has been in sensational form over the past two seasons and Moyes could well want him.
However, recent reports have suggested Jose Mourinho is keen for Lewandowski to join Chelsea as the current Real Madrid manager has been heavily tipped to take over at Stamford Bridge in the summer.
The Premier League duo could well be outmanoeuvred, however, as the Bild report claims Perez acted quickly immediately after los Blancos were dumped out of the Champions League 4-3 on aggregate.
It claims he pulled Lewandowski aside in the tunnel after the match at Santiago Bernabeu and took him to another room for ten-minute talk where he made a very enticing sell of the Spanish giants.
Lewandowski destroyed Mourino’s side in the first leg of the semi-final in Dortmund, scoring all the home side’s goals in a 4-1 thrashing and confirming the assertion of many that he is one of the most talented strikers in Europe.
