The term legend is often used loosely but what Sir Alex Ferguson has done for Manchester United and the Premier League establishes his legendary status within the game.
The Scot is an example to every manager that follows him in years to come. Sir Alex’s achievements will never be matched. The style of management that he bought to the Manchester club was revolutionary. He nurtured players such as Giggs, Scholes and Beckham and coached them to the top. To this day his ex-players speak about the great relationships they shared with him not only on the pitch but off it as well. Ferguson knew exactly what Man United needed and during his tenure introduced fast flowing football to the Red Devils.
The club reaped rewards from this philosophy and was launched to the top end on the English league - never to look back down again. What Ferguson did that no other manger of his time did was that he kept evolving with the ever changing game.
From new sports technologies to new coaching methods Ferguson always had his eye on the ball. Around Old Trafford everyone will tell you that Ferguson earned their respect because of the extremely focussed and passionate job he did while at the club. This is a man who truly had Manchester United oozing through his veins. Ferguson kept his discipline tight and ran a very efficient ship.
All his squads are balanced with senior players and younger talent all of which seem to click together and find that winning mentality when need be. The winning mentality will be one of Sir Alex’s biggest legacies, he made everyone at the club believe that United could be the best club in the world and churn out some of the greatest talent ever seen.
By acquiring stars such as Cantona and Ronaldo, Ferguson proved just how savvy he was in transfer market moulding two world class players. Even the board members respect Sir Alex as he is an institution, a force which has the full backing of the fans.
Sir Alex stands for everything that makes football so great - passion, drive, determination and excitement. It’s sad to see a legend of the game disappear.
The statue of Ferguson stands tall outside Old Trafford just like Sir Alex’s legacy which will resonate with all football fans past, present and of course the future.
