Bolton Wanderers have been given permission to enter talks with out of favour Leicester City striker Jermaine Beckford, with the transfer expected to be concluded over the next few days, according to BBC Sport.
Leicester manager Nigel Pearson has hinted there is no future at the club for the Jamaican international, following a loan spell at Huddersfield Town at this season.
The midlands club are believed to be looking to recoup a fee in the region of £1 million pounds, having spent £2.5 million for his services just two years ago.
A link with Wanderers boss Freedman and London born Beckford is thought to have been established during the time they played together at Leeds United five years ago, and Freedman will be hoping the striker will be able to rekindle the prolific form he possessed at Leeds, following a few years of inconsistency and uncertainty at his respective clubs.
Beckford scored nine goals in 27 Championship appearances this season, including five goals in his last four appearances, which helped Huddersfield Town retain their Championship status.
This could be viewed as an early signal of intent by the Bolton manager, following disappointingly missing out on a place in the playoffs on the final day of the season, and failing to make an instant return to the Premier League.
Question marks could also arise over the futures of current strikers Marvin Sordell and David Ngog, as Freedman looks to stamp his mark on the squad on the summer, after inheriting a playing staff concocted by former manager Owen Coyle following his appointment in November.
