Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has heaped praise on Sir Alex Ferguson as the legendary Manchester United manager gets ready for his 1,499th game in charge of United against Swansea.

Van Persie signed from rivals Arsenal in the summer transfer window and is just one of numerous players and managers paying tribute to a manager who was at the helm for almost 27 years and in that time shaped the club into one of the world’s leading names in football.

Although Van Persie only got the chance to work with Sir Alex for a solitary season the wily Scot has clearly made an impression on the Dutch Striker.

Working under Sir Alex Van Persie was not only the catalyst behind United’s 13th Premier League title win but also looks odds on favorite for the golden boot for the second season in a row.

“I am really sad to hear that the manager is retiring,” Van Persie posted on his official Facebook account on Friday morning.

“But I'm really happy I have had the opportunity and the honour to work with him.

“He is a great manager and, above all, an even greater person. I have to thank him for an amazing year and for making my dream come true by winning the league.

“I wish him and his family the very best.”

With Sir Alex’s decision to retire at the end of the season an era will come to an end at Manchester United and newly appointed manager David Moyes will certainly have his work cut out for himself if he is to emulate Sir Alex’s achievements.

Moyes however, inherits a very young and talented side from Sir Alex with an attack boasting the likes of Javier Hernandez, Van Persie, Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney along with experienced campaigners like Ryan Giggs, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

All in all the season ahead promises to be a new experience for all Manchester United fans as they await to see Sir Alex’s successor lead the club into the future.
