Chelsea are being linked with a summer move for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira.
The Daily Mirror claims Jose Mourinho wants the German international to follow him to Stamford Bridge, as ‘the special one’ looks to strengthen the Blues in a number of key areas.
Despite Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich being unwilling to pay the £17million release clause in the former Inter Milan manager’s contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, the club remains hopeful that they will bring their former boss back to west London.
And, if the Mourinho move goes ahead, then £20million-rated Khedira is on the manager’s wanted list as he looks to mount a charge at the Premier League title.
Khedira joined Los Blancos in 2010, with the 39-cap Germany star moving to the Spanish capital for an undisclosed fee from Stuttgart.
Mourinho will look to sign the 26-year-old for a second time, according to the paper, although the central midfielder could be reluctant to leave after a season spent in-and-out of the first team at Madrid.
