Arsenal have held a second round of talks with Swansea City defender Ashley William's representatives, according to Goal.com.

The Wales international is keen to make a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer, but the clubs can't quite settle on a transfer fee.

Arsenal rate the defender around the £8m-mark, but Swansea are keen to attract a bid of around £12m.

Still, Arsenal appear to have the best chance of acquiring Williams. Liverpool were rumoured to be interested, but the club have their doubts about buying a 29-year-old defender.

Wenger, on the other hand, believes that Williams' experience and success can add to an Arsenal defence that has struggled against big clubs in the past.

Arsenal fans, though, could argue that Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny, and Thomas Vermaelen are all rather experienced defenders themselves.

Williams could also be a replacement for the current Arsenal skipper Vermaelen. Despite finding himself on the bench recently, the Belgian centre-back is drawing attention from Barcelona. The Catalan club need defensive reinforcements and Vermaelen could be just that for them.

Arsenal have also made an enquiry to sign the Sochaux right-back Sebastian Corchia and are keeping a close eye on Marseille centre-back Nicolas N'Koulou.

The two youngsters could be looking to leave their respective clubs this summer and are potentially part of Arsene Wenger's plans for a defensive overhaul.

Liverpool aren't fully out of the run for Williams, however. Brendan Rodgers is the Swansea man's former manager, and could play a big role in coaxing him to Anfield.

Arsenal are more likely to provide the Welshman with Champions League football, though that is only if they can finish with a top four spot.
