Chelsea are one of those clubs that are consistently linked with the brightest talents in world football year after year.

We take a look at a transfer target XI that have been lined up as possible arrivals to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Igor Akinfeev

The CSKA Moscow shot stopper is highly rated in his home country of Russia. With quick reflexes and great passing ability, Akinfeev would make a great addition to any squad. With Petr Cech Chelsea’s number one and Thibaut Courtois, currently on loan at Atletico Madrid this season, on the books at Chelsea, the goalkeeping positions seemed to be filled. The possibility that Akinfeev would sign for Chelsea to sit on the bench is unlikely.

Sergio Ramos

Sergio Ramos has proved throughout his career at Real Madrid, that he is the real deal. He has been consistent in the Madrid defence playing anywhere across the back four. Ramos also chips in with the odd goal for Real adding good attacking ability to his credentials.

Mats Hummels

Hummels has become the stalwart of the Borussia Dortmund defence. An excellent header of the ball, the big German has played a major part in the success of his club over the past couple of seasons. Still young at 24, Hummels looks to have a long and successful career ahead of him wherever he plays. He has been linked to a move to the Premier League on a number of occasions, therefore the Blues may look to snap him up.

Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva made his name at Italian giants AC Milan. A big money transfer to Paris St. Germaine has proved to enhance has career as a centre half. With sublime skill and hard tackling, the strong Brazilian has a touch of flair about him. A public war of words with Joey Barton has increased his fame, making him a household name to followers of European football.

Leighton Baines

Leighton Baines is currently wrestling the English left-back spot away from Chelsea star, Ashley Cole. To choose who the better player is often divides opinion amongst football analysts and writers around the world. Baines is a dead ball specialist, having converted free kicks and penalties for Everton throughout his career. With Cole’s legs beginning to tire, Baines could easily become England's first choice next season.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano is one of the unluckiest footballers on the planet. From having scored more goals then games he has played in for Real Madrid and wooing the Manchester United faithful with moments of wonder, he is still regarded as the second best player in the world. Lionel Messi has beaten Ronaldo to the Ballon D’Or in each of the last four years. Ronaldo has all the qualities of the perfect attacker.

He is an excellent distant shooter, powerful header of the ball, speedster on the flanks, dead ball master and has an abundance of skill in his locker. With the imminent arrival of Jose Mourinho to Chelsea, he would be hoping a multi-million euro deal can be finalised to bring his fellow countryman with him.

Sami Khedira

Sami Khedira’s fortunes have transformed since joining Real Madrid. Largely unknown in the football world before his transfer, the German international has excelled in the Spanish capital. The link between attack and defence in the middle of the Madrid midfield, Khedira is one of the most under rated midfielders in world football.

Luka Modric

Modric has not settled as well as would have wanted at Real Madrid. The pass master’s qualities had a number of clubs, including Chelsea, bidding for his signature before he linked up with Jose Mourinho at Madrid. Making the majority of his appearances from the bench, Modric would happily accept a transfer back to the Premier League.

Andre Schurrle

The young German is heavily linked with a transfer to Chelsea with a deal all but being done. Chelsea already have a variety of talented attackers on the roster with Juan Mata, Eden Hazard, Oscar and Victor Moses. It is hard to see where the Bayer Leverkusen front man will fit in, but his versatility could add some much needed strength in depth.

Radamel Falcao

Falcao is widely regarded as the best strikers in world football to people that consider Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as attacking midfielders. The Columbian sensation is the complete striker. He has an incredible goal scoring record wherever he has played. Falcao would be a sensational addition to Chelsea up front as a consistent goal scorer is vital for Chelsea and their future success.

Robert Lewandowski

The Polish international has taken the UEFA Champions league by storm this season. An amazing tally of four goals against Real Madrid in the first leg of their semi final bout grabbed the headlines of newspapers all over Europe. Lewandowski has been linked to Manchester United in recent weeks and if Chelsea secured his signature he would repay his costly price tag with goals, goals and more goals.
