Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas says relegation strugglers Wigan can beat Arsenal and blow the race for Champions League football wide open.

Arsenal take on Wigan on Tuesday at the Emirates Stadium, with both sides desperately needing all three points to help them towards their respective goals for the season.

Arsenal are two points behind Spurs in the race for a top-four spot having played a game less, while the Latics must win both of their remaining fixtures if they are to stand a chance of avoiding the drop.

If Arsenal drop points it would hand Tottenham the initiative ahead of the last day of the season, while a win would lave Villas-Boas's side requiring a favour from an already-safe Newcastle, who take on the Gunners next weekend in their final fixture.

The Portuguese coach believes it may not come to that however, and is backing Roberto Martinez's FA Cup-winning team to pick up points on Tuesday.

"Obviously there is great emotion and motivation going through the Wigan players' heads at the moment, and we saw the message from (chairman) Dave Whelan saying they are absolutely focused," said Villas-Boas, who oversaw his side beat Stoke 2-1 on Saturday.

"I expect them to give them a hard game because the objectives are there for both teams. Arsenal are a very experienced side, but Wigan are very, very motivated to save themselves."

Regardless of the outcome on Tuesday, the battle for the final Champions League spot is gong down to the wire, with Spurs going up against relegation-threatened Sunderland.

"For us the objective was to take this into the last game of the season and that is what we will do," the 35-year-old added.
