Moyes identifies £10m Everton star as third target
Manchester United transfer news: Phil Jagielka is a £10m target for David Moyes this summer
Incoming Manchester United manager David Moyes will make £10m-rated Phil Jagielka his first summer transfer target, according to The Sun.
The England international is one of three Everton players on his transfer wishlist as he prepares to raid his old club at the end of the season. Moyes, who will succeed Sir Alex Ferguson in the United hot-seat this summer, is also keen to bring Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini to Old Trafford.
The former-Preston boss signed Jagielka from Sheffield United in a £4m deal six years ago, and according to a source from The Sun, Moyes believes the centre-back can make the step up to Champions League level.
An Everton source told The Sun: "David loves Jags from top to bottom. He describes him as 'absolute class.'
"If there is one player from here he will come back for, it will be Jags. They get on great and David considers it a pleasure to work with him."
The 30-year-old defender is being lined up as competition for veteran centre-half pairing Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.
Ferdinand's contract expires at the end of the season, although he is keen to extend his stay at Old Trafford.
Vidic has struggled with injury problems over the past 18 months, and Jagielka could be the man to offer the security and experience necessary to cover for the Serbian should he suffer a reoccurrence.
