Manchester United will face competition from Bayer Leverkusen for Argentinian playmaker Nico Gaitan this summer as the German club have identified the attacker as a potential replacement for Andre Schurrle, according to talkSPORT.
Gaitan, an attacking midfielder at Benfica, has been a long-term target for United, and the newly crowned Premier League champions have been scouting the player extensively this season.
The 22-year-old star is a creative midfielder, and has been identified by Leverkusen as a possible like-for-like alternative to the Chelsea-bound Schurrle.
The Germany international is expected to move to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, with an agreement thought to be already agreed between the two clubs.
As a result, Leverkusen will be looking for a replacement, and Gaitan is thought to be on their radar.
The £17m-rated star can operate out wide or through the middle, and Leverkusen feel he could step into Schurrle's shoes and contribute right away.
But Benfica will be eager to keep hold of their best players after an incredible season.
Defeat to Porto last weekend was their first loss of the league campaign, but the result means they will likely now finish second in the race for the Portuguese title.
Premier League fans will have the opportunity to watch Gaitan and the rest of the Benfica team in action this week when they take on Chelsea in the Europa League final.
