Motherwell goalkeeper Darren Randolph is poised to sign for Championship club Birmingham City, according to reports.

Should Randolph make the move to England, the one-time Republic of Ireland keeper would join up with former SPL midfielder Andrew Shinnie, who joined Birmingham on a free transfer from Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Birmingham City manager Lee Clark will have been looking to add to his goalkeeping ranks after losing promising young keeper to Jack Butland to Stoke City in January.

The England U21 international stayed at Birmingham on loan until the summer, but has since left the club. This has paved the way for Randolph to join up with fellow Irish goalkeeper Colin Doyle, who is Birmingham's only senior international goalkeeper following Butland's departure.

The concern for Clark would have been a lack of back-up in goal for whoever he makes his number one for next season. Other than Colin Doyle, Birmingham only have one other goalkeeper, Nick Townsend, who is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Midlands side.

Randolph has had a successful season in Scotland, playing under Motherwell manager Stuart McCall, and since his arrival from Charlton Athletic in 2010, Randolph has made 111 appearances in the Motherwell goal.

In the 2012 season, Motherwell reached the preliminary rounds of the Champions League, but were knocked out by Greek side Panathinaikos, with Randolph playing in both games. Following their exit from the Champions League, Motherwell reached the qualifying rounds of the Europa League, but were again beaten, this time 3-0 on aggregate by Spanish side Levante.

Randolph's experience of playing in Europe's top competitions will have been appealing for Clark, and Birmingham will be expected to sign Randolph on a free-transfer later this week following a successful medical.
