Palmeiras goalkeeper Bruno apologised for what he described as a 'grotesque error' as his side missed out on a place in the last eight of the Copa Libertadores with defeat to Tijuana on Tuesday.

Tijuana recorded an historic 2-1 triumph at the Palestra Italia - only the fourth time a Mexican side has won in Brazil in 33 attempts - but were provided with significant help from an embarrassing howler from the Palmeiras No.1.

The visitors took the lead when a tame Duvier Riascos shot somehow squirmed through the grasp of Bruno when a routine save appeared a certainty, leaving the 28-year-old Brazilian to look to he heavens and ponder what had just happened.

Bruno had been named man-of-the-match in the goalless first leg, but was left to rue his decisive mistake as Palmieiras were defeated 2-1 - with each of Tijuana's first two shots on target finding the back of the net.

Tijuana will meet Ronaldinho's side Atletico Mineiro in the quarter-final of the competition.
