Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is streaking away with the Premier League Golden Boot award but, as he admitted himself, it is an award that fails to acknowledge much of the work of his teammates.
While Van Persie’s goals were crucial to Sir Alex Ferguson’s side winning the Premier league this season and a star centre forward is integral to success, football is about working as a unit.
The main man up top needs an impressive supporting cast to share the goals around – as Arsenal’s failings last year showed when the Dutchman carried the scoring burden almost by himself.
GMF decided the spread of goals around a team is something that needs a bit of acknowledgement.
So we decided to go through all the Premier League squads and added up the cumulative scoring totals of their respective four top scorers.
That way we worked out the Premier League’s six most prolific attacking units – special thanks to Who Scored for the stats.
