Frank Lampard dropped the biggest hint yet that he will be staying at Chelsea next season after their Europa League triumph on Wednesday night.

The Stamford Bridge legend was speaking to television reporters after the game when he was quizzed over his future and whether he would remain a Chelsea player next season.

“I really hope so. We’re getting there, we haven’t completely sat down on it but the club have been brilliant, it looks good,” he said.

Lampard’s current deal expires in the summer and the question of whether he would be signing a new one has followed him for the whole season.

Reports on the morning before the final claimed Chelsea and Lampard had already agreed terms on a new one-year extension and were just waiting to confirm publicly.

It has been a good few days for Lampard; he became Chelsea’s all-time leading goalscorer on by getting a brace in the win against Aston Villa on Saturday.

The 34-year-old then captained the Blues on a dramatic night in Amsterdam, nearly winning it for his team in the dying minutes with a 30-yard thunderbolt that crashed against the bar.

Fernando Torres had given Chelsea the lead with a well-taken goal, but Benfica were level just seven minutes later when Oscar Cardozo scored from the penalty spot following a handball from Cesar Azpilicueta.

Rafael Benitez’s side were not done, however, and defender Branislav Ivanovic’s looping header secure the trophy for them deep into injury time.
