Arsenal and Tottenham transfer target Christian Benteke wants a new Aston Villa contract with a bumper pay rise, according to the player's agent.

Eris Kismet, Benteke's agent, has hinted at talks with the Villa hierarchy over an improved contract for the Belgian international after a stunning debut Premier League campaign.

Arsenal and Spurs have been credited with an interest in the forward. Benteke has 19 Premier League goals for Paul Lambert's side this term, playing an instrumental role in their battle against the drop.

And Kismet wants Villa to recognise his player's contribution with a new contract.

As reported by The Metro, Kismet said: "Now that Villa's future is secure I hope we can have discussions by the end of this week. If not, then next week.

"We did the transfer deal last summer with Aston Villa with a lot of respect. We hope that discussions on a new contract will be done in the same way.

"Villa have said they want to speak for several weeks, but it has been difficult because of the situation in the Premier League.

"Now they are safe the situation will change."

Arsenal and Spurs are not the only sides linked with Benteke. Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund are the latest club thought to be interested in the 22-year-old, and Villa can expect plenty of interest this summer.

"A lot of scouts from many teams have an interest in Christian," continued Kismet. "Now Villa's future in the Premier League is decided we will know more.

"It is natural for many teams to show an interest when Christian has had such a good season."

Tottenham in particular have been linked with a summer move for a new striker, with Andre Villas-Boas hopeful of securing Champions League football.

Spurs face a nervous final day fixture against Sunderland. One point behind Arsenal with one game remaining, Tottenham will be keeping an eye on the Gunners' result at Newcastle as they look to clinch a top four finish.
