Monaco deal for Chelsea target 90% done

Published 14 Comments

Chelsea are on the brink of missing out on a major transfer target Radamel Falcao after it was claimed AS Monaco had 90 per cent of the deal done.

The Stamford Bridge club’s owner, Roman Abramovich, was reportedly desperate to land the Atletico Madrid striker as the Blues look to rebuild their squad for another assault on the Premier League.

However, it appears as though Chelsea’s Oligarch is not the only Russian billionaire after Falcao and ASM owner Dmitry Rybolovlev appears to be winning the tussle for the Colombia international.

According to the newly promoted Ligue 1 club’s goalkeeper, Danijel Subasic, a deal to take Falcao to the principality is nearly done.

In fact, Subasic claims that Chelsea are not even among the contenders to sign Falcao and that only Real Madrid entering the fray could scupper his move to Monaco.

"I will tell you what I have heard, and that is that Falcao is 90 per cent at Monaco," he told Sportske Novosti.

"For sure, it is what they have told us, with only a small possibility that Monaco could only lose him if Real Madrid were to come in, but that is now unlikely.

"If he does not leave for the Bernabeu, he will come to Monaco. Securing promotion to Ligue 1 is said to be only the beginning.

"The club's plan is to sign five or six of the best players they can."

If what Subasic says is accurate, Chelsea may well have given up on landing Falcao and they have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund top scorer Robert Lewandowski.
