MLS goalkeeper scores nightmare own goal
Zac MacMath scores own goal as Philadelphia Union lose 4-1 to LA Galaxy
Major League Soccer’s reputation took a bit of a knock on Wednesday night, with Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Zac MacMath having a moment to forget against the LA Galaxy.
The 21-year-old USA youth international appeared to have everything under control when Landon Donovan floated in a second minute corner.
However, the former Martland Terrapins stopper got it all wrong inside his own six-yard box, missing a double-fisted punch and heading the ball into the wrong net off the crossbar.
His evening against David Beckham’s old club wasn’t going to get any better as the match went on, although the Union did get level on 23 minutes when Amobi Okugo headed home.
However, Irish international Robbie Keane got his first on 71 minutes, before Hector Jimenez extended the lead just a few moments later. Keane put the match out of reach with three minutes left on the clock, as LA ‘snapped a two-game losing streak’.
It was the moment of madness from MacMath which stole the show though, so watch it below and let us know if it’s the worst own goal you’ve ever seen…
