Tottenham Under-21s are through to the final of the inaugural Under-21 Premier League after beating Everton 3-2 at White Hart lane, with Jon Obika netting an 89th-minute winner.
The future is truly looking bright for the Lilywhites, winning their Under-21 Elite Group with style and purpose - playing the Tottenham way, attacking with flair and pace.
The Spurs' ethos is clearly shown even in these youth games. With 28 players in this formidable squad, they have dominated youth football and deservedly take their place in the final, where they will face Manchester United on May 20.
Of course this team isn't just the youth players, in this league the rules state: "The Professional Development League is open to players in the under-21 age group, but each team sheet may contain the names of one overage goalkeeper and three overage outfield players."
Younes Kaboul took part in a couple of these matches to bring back his match fitness after suffering injury. Likewise, Scott Parker also appeared for the team, grabbing a goal - his first ever for the club. Tom Carroll also regularly takes part in these games to get some game time, sometimes drifting into the first team but never getting a solid run so far.
A question must be asked: when is the right time to introduce these youth stars?
The Spurs first team is very strong, and finishing inside the top four of the Premier League seems to get tougher every year. The best time to introduce these youth players is perhaps in pre-season friendlies, but even better still, including them in European fixtures.
There's normally a weak team who you could perhaps stick a youth player on for a few minutes to see what he can do. It really depends on how old they are, and how we define 'youth'.
Carroll may be young, but in all his appearances so far this season, he has turned up and done very well. He is a player capable of playing in this pressure and can handle the experienced players.
The sooner you introduce youth, the quicker they will improve, too soon and they will struggle. It's up to Andre Villas-Boas and co. to decide when to introduce these fantastic players.
