MLS striker gets tackled by a ghost

Published 8 Comments

Philadelphia Union's 4-1 defeat at the hands of LA Galaxy last night was forgettable for a number of reasons, not least for the home side's striker Conor Casey, who became the laughing stock of PPL Park after he fell over completely unchallenged.

With the scores level at 1-1 in the 70th minute, the 31-year-old broke free down the left-wing in an attempt to orchestrate a Philadelphia attack, only to stumble and stack it after a 'ghost tackle' on the touchline.

Casey was subjected to light-hearted jibes from both sets of Major League Soccer supporters, but the jovial atmosphere was short-lived, after three quick fire goals from the visitors secured an emphatic victory for David Beckham's old side.

The result ensures LA Galaxy keep pace at the top of the Western Conference, ending their two-game winless streak, while Philadelphia Union remain in mid-table in the Eastern Conference, six points behind leaders New York Red Bulls, who have played two games more.
