Former Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka has heaped praise on both the players and fans following their Europa League success in Amsterdam last night (Wednesday).
The Blues followed-up their success in the Champions League 12 months earlier with victory over Benfica, with goals from Fernando Torres and Branislav Ivanovic enough to bring the trophy back to Stamford Bridge.
Oscar Cardozo scored from the spot for the Portuguese giants, who have now lost seven consecutive European finals since Eusebio led the side to glory in 1962.
Anelka, who spent four years with the Blues between 2008 and 2012, was delighted to see the Blues win on the big stage once again, and felt particularly happy for the fans of the west London club.
He told GiveMeFootball for his official Facebook page: “I am very happy for Chelsea and all the fans of the club to win the Europa League.”
Anelka is currently plying his trade with Juventus, on loan from Chinese outfit Shanghai Shenhua. He’s made one league appearance for the Serie ‘A’ champions, and also featured once for the club in the Champions League.
