32 hours after seeing his Manchester City team suffer a shock loss to the hands of Wigan in the FA Cup Final Roberto Mancini received more bad news when it was announced that he was sacked as manager. He would have known it was coming and sadly it did.
Manchester City have become a constant figure now as being one of the top three teams in England. He ended their trophy drought of 35 years and ended their title drought of 44 years.
Yes Mancini failed in Europe especially at the second time of asking but even then they received the group of death that included Real Madrid (Semi Finalist), Borussia Dortmund (current finalist), and Ajax who always give you a challenge.
Now City have to start over. One thing in their favour is they have a very solid squad to be inherited with some real world-class talent in the likes of Vincent Kompany, Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure. It isn't likely that City wont challenge but my expectations for City have lowered.
Manuel Pellegrini looks set to become the new manager by all reports and it will take some time for him to implement his ideas and tactics to a new squad with big egos. He has done well with his Malaga side so City fans will be excited by that prospect.
It feels like a Chelsea trigger job. England is a tough place to manage and though expectations are high and they should be set high there will be seasons of failure even at the biggest clubs. City had the chance to provide the club with some continuity by keeping a solid manager who given the time could of created something special.
A chance lost, we will all watch with intrigue as to how the new boss fares.
