Tottenham are on the fringes of the Premier League top four, but most probably won't cross it.
However, to become serious title contenders, they need to buy some quality players. If the do, they will achieve greater heights.
If Andre Villas-Boas decides to spend his money, Tottenham will surely become title contenders. Here is the potential XI for the next season:
Goalkeeper: Hugo Lloris
The Frenchman has excelled in goal this season and will surely keep his position. With eight clean sheets under his belt, the former Lyon keeper has been a revelation and will surely continue to impress.
Right-back: Kyle Walker
The young and talented full-back has been one of Spurs' guiding lights this season. His speed and determination to contain a winger is a valuable asset to Spurs and they will try and hold on to him for one more season.
Centre-back: Younes Kaboul
The Spurs centre-back is strong tall, athletic and is continuing to improve constantly. He beats Michael Dawson and William Gallas due to injuries and old age, respectively.
Centre-back: Jan Vertonghen
"Super Jan" has been a defensive wall, a playmaker on occasions and has even popped up with a few goals. His versatility, strength, heading ability and passes have been vital to the Lilywhites.
Left-back: Benoit Assou-Ekotto
The Cameroon/France full-back has had a good career with Spurs and is continuing to impress with Tottenham. He is a regular starter, but sadly was sidelined for the 2012/13 season, but will definitely show his worth next season.
Centre-midfielder: Joao Moutinho
The Porto central midfielder has been on Tottenham's radar for a long time, but they have always failed to secure him. However, it seems that Villas-Boas is going to break the bank and purchase him. He is a versatile midfielder who can play as a holding midfielder and an attacking one.
Centre-midfielder: Scott Parker
The central midfielder provides the defensive stability to Tottenham's play and will continue to keep his position despite stiff competition from Sandro and Mousa Dembele.
Attacking midfielder: Clint Dempsey
The American attacking midfielder has been decent since his arrival at White Hart Lane. His goals and assists have been valuable, and his dribbling skills are commendable too. He has a rich history with Fulham and will continue to increase his reputation at Tottenham.
Keeping in mind that Gareth Bale could be on his way out, Neymar might be the man to fill his boots. The Brazilian winger is often described as "overrated" but he is extremely young, has a lot of potential and has speed, dribbling skills and an eye for goal.
He can play in a striking or a a winger role, but he might end up as a winger again for Spurs.
Right-wing: Aaron Lennon
The fast-as-lightning winger has talent has impressed and has formed an impressive partnership with Gareth Bale. His speed and agility have been valuable assets to Spurs and will hold his position at Spurs.
Striker: Leandro Damiao
The Brazilian poacher has been a long-term target for the Lilywhites and they are desperate to get him. However, it looks like he will be arriving at Spurs and provide the goals they might be needing with Bale expected to depart.
