Theo Walcott has revealed that manager Arsene Wenger gave them a very stern telling off at half time on Tuesday night when the team played Wigan Athletic at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners took an early lead through a Lukas Podolski header and despite controlling the entire half; they went in level pegging at 1-1 after a Shaun Maloney free-kick.

Arsenal eventually went on to win the game 4-1 thanks to another Lukas Podolski goal and goals from Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott. It was a win that put them fourth in the table and also relegated Wigan.

The win on Tuesday has given Arsenal a strong chance of finishing in the top four once again and they go into the last game of the season knowing their fate is in their own hands.

Arsenal's top goal scorer this season Theo Walcott has revealed today that at half-time Arsene Wenger gave the team some strong words and gave them a very passionate speech to try and motivate the team.

Walcott also revealed that he feels the team will be very confident when they travel to St James Park on Sunday.

“It’s great that the manager has that passion and it got a bit more out of the players,” Walcott said to Arsenal.com.

“We all knew how big it was [to win against Wigan], not just for the manager, the fans, the players and the club itself.

“It’s massive to be in the Champions League. It’s in our hands. The manager gave us a kick up the backside. I felt we did show some good play in the first half but we didn’t manage to take our chances. Thankfully we did in the second.

“When it was half time, we had 45 minutes. We didn’t have to panic. We had plenty of time left. We just had to keep making the right decisions and not force it.

“That’s the important thing. We know when to play at the right times and when to commit bodies forward and I think we got that balance right. We need to make sure we do it on Sunday as well.”
