Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes midfielder Santi Cazorla is underrated after he missed out on a place in the PFA Team of the Year.

Wenger signed Cazorla back in the summer from Spanish side Malaga for a fee estimated around £14 million and the Spaniard has had a very impressive debut season.

The midfield maestro has been influential in the heart of the Arsenal midfield and has produced great performances non-stop throughout the season.

Cazorla has managed to reach double-figures for goals this season and has also provided the team with several assists. In fact, the 28-year-old has been involved in over a third of Arsenal's goals this season.

Many international players take time to adapt to English football, but Cazorla has hit the ground running at the Emirates Stadium and is the favourite to win the club's Player of the Season award.

His manager Arsene Wenger has nothing but praise to give the small midfielder and he has also revealed that he believes he is the most underrated footballer in England.

“I think he is a bit of an underrated player in the Premier League,” Wenger told Arsenal Player. “When you think he was not in the [PFA] team of the season picked by the players, it's quite harsh. Personally I would have put im in there.

“When you look at his quality, that is of course outstanding, but also his attitude and workrate for the team. He's one of the players who has been absolutely outstanding this season.”

Most of Arsenal's goals also come from the pairing of either Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott or Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla but this doesn't surprise Wenger.

“Giroud and Walcott is easier to understand because one crosses the ball and the other finishes,” he said. “Podolski and Cazorla are more short-passing and combination players so that as well is explainable by the characteristics of the two players.”
